By 1993, death metal was at a turning point, and Suffocation rose to the challenge to take the genre into a fresh direction. Enter 1993s Breeding the Spawn, one of the first standouts in the tech-death milieu, which ups the competency of their 1991 debut, Effigy of the Forgotten, without losing itself in self-indulgent complexity. Its notoriously muddy production gives the songs a delightfully disgusting character, and the awesome colors on the cover art bring it all together. Its a must-have.
