Herbie Hancock New Standard (2-LP Vinyl)

Originally released in 1996, The New Standard arrived as a genuine provocation, Hancock essentially asking whether the American Songbook had a worthy successor in the pop and rock music of his own era. The answer, delivered by one of the most formidable small groups he had ever assembled, was a resounding yes. Hearing Brecker and Scofield work through “Norwegian Wood” or a Prince tune with the same rigor they’d bring to a Coltrane standard remains a quietly radical act.

Double 180gm vinyl LP pressing. Originally released in 1996 (and available for the first time on vinyl), The New Standard features songs by Stevie Wonder, Prince, Sade, Nirvana and more getting creative, inspired and swinging jazz takes from Herbie and a world class band; Michael Brecker (sax), John Scofield (guitar), Dave Holland (bass), Jack DeJohnette (drums) and Don Alias (percussion). Verve By Request Series features transfers from the analog tapes remastered.
