Jonathan and Darlene Edwards- Jonathan Plays Fats Darlene Remembers Duke

From deep in the vaults comes a digital re-release of their unplugged “Jazz” LP featuring the music of Duke Ellington and Fats Waller. The additional bonus tracks comprise the entire Jonathan & Darlene Disco Singles Collection from 1979 as originally premiered on the Dr. Demento Radio Program. Jonathan & Darlene Edward’s 1957 debut album awarded them a 48 star review in Downbeat Magazine. Their second recording, Jonathan & Darlene in Paris won them the 1960 Grammy for best comedy album. Though this award category somewhat bewildered them it never the less continued a 25 year recording “career” which culminated in this final album originally released in 1982. When Jonathan & Darlene Edwards put their indelible mark on any style of music it’s very hard to erase ! Indeed their jazz “interpretations” of these classic Ellington, Waller and Strayhorn compositions are a unique listening experience. It’s difficult to imagine how Duke, Fats, and Billy would have reacted to these performances. Tracks: Honeysuckle Rose/ I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter / Ain’t Misbehavin’ / I’ve Got a Feelin’ I’m Fallin’ / Do Nothin’ Til You Hear from Me / Take the a Train / I’m Beginning to See the Light / Sophisticated Lady / Don’t Get Around Much Anymore / Mood Indigo / Black And Blue. Bonus tracks: Stayin’ Alive / I Am Woman / Copacabana / Tie a Yellow Ribbon.
